On 26th April a team of 16 gymnasts and 4 coaches travelled to London to take part in the Gym Fusion event. This is a festival which gives gymnastics clubs and teams the opportunity to showcase their skills not matter what the level of ability. Each year the festival carries a theme, this year’s theme is “Next Generation”.
There are a number of ways this can be interpreted and many teams created a variety of imaginative performances for the crowd. Abbey chose to showcase their skills incorporating music through the generations from 1950’s to present day. With costumes changes, props and a range of music the Abbey Team represented their Club brilliantly and being the only Club from Northern Ireland participating made the event even more memorable.
In addition to the official performance the Team visited the Olympic Park where the 2012 Olympic Games were held. They enjoyed practicing in the open space and attracted a crowd of spectators. From there the gymnasts enjoyed an evening at the acrobatic circus which was inspiring to our young gymnasts.
Gym Fusion is a non competitive programme at Abbey training floor including dance and tumble skills. These gymnasts have opportunities to showcase skills at various events including Council Functions, Fundraisers and Conferences.
